Situated on the mainland coast of western Greece, directly opposite Lefkas, Palairos is a peaceful seaside town surrounded by the Acarnanian Mountains and the clear waters of the Ionian Sea. A Journey Through History The history of Palairos stretches back thousands of years. Above the modern town, visitors can explore the remains of Ancient Palairos, including sections of its impressive defensive walls, towers and ancient structures. The fortifications were constructed during different historical periods, with some sections traditionally associated with the Mycenaean era and others belonging to later phases of the ancient city. From the elevated archaeological site, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Ionian coastline and Lake Voulkaria. Palairos also appears in the writings of the ancient historian Thucydides. During the first year of the Peloponnesian War, he recorded Athenian naval activity in the region and the transfer of the nearby city of Sollium to the Acarnanians of Palairos. Beautiful Beaches and Local Experiences The coastline around Palairos is known for its clear waters and its mixture of sandy and pebbled beaches. Vathiavali Beach is one of the area’s best known swimming spots, with turquoise water and a dramatic natural setting. Potamaki Beach offers a long sandy shoreline and shallow water, making it particularly suitable for families. Varko and Pogonia Beaches provide peaceful surroundings for swimming, snorkelling and relaxing beside the Ionian Sea. Easy Access from Aktion Airport Palairos is approximately 28 kilometres from Aktion International Airport, also known as Preveza Airport. The journey to the waterfront normally takes around 25 to 30 minutes by car, allowing visitors to begin their vacation shortly after arriving in Greece. Adonis Bougiouris Wins Gold at the 2026 ILCA 7 Masters World Championship
MG Yachts proudly congratulates Adonis Bougiouris, the athlete we had the honour to support, for winning the gold medal in the Masters category at the 2026 ILCA 7 Masters World Championship in Athens. The championship concluded on 16 June 2026 after six days of racing and twelve completed races in the waters of the Saronic Gulf. Adonis delivered an outstanding performance, finishing first in the Masters category with 15 points and securing the world title for Greece. His victory is a moment of great pride for Greek sailing and for everyone who believes in dedication, discipline and passion for the sea. At MG Yachts, sailing is at the heart of who we are. MG Yachts Supports Blue on Sail 2: A Journey of Connection and Empowerment
Some journeys are measured in nautical miles. Others are measured in shared experiences, meaningful conversations and the friendships created along the way. MG Yachts was proud to support Blue on Sail 2 as Major Sponsor, an inspiring three-day sailing experience organised by the Hellenic Diabetes Federation, ELODI. Starting from Palairos, the participants sailed through the beautiful Ionian Sea, visiting Kalamos, Meganisi, Atokos, Ithaca and Sivota Lefkada before returning to their starting point. Over the course of the journey, the two yachts covered a total of 82.68 nautical miles, offering participants the opportunity to discover the beauty of sailing while becoming part of a supportive and welcoming community. Blue on Sail 2 was much more than a sailing trip. It brought together people of different ages and backgrounds who shared experiences, challenges and hopes connected with living with diabetes. Educational workshops formed an important part of the programme. Participants received practical information about insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring systems and the everyday self-management of diabetes. Interactive activities also encouraged open discussion about stereotypes, stigma, emotional wellbeing and the importance of mutual support. The programme was enriched by yoga in Meganisi, swimming in the Ionian waters, a visit to Atokos, walks through the picturesque villages of Ithaca and a five-kilometre hiking experience from Perachori to Paliochora. The most meaningful moments, however, were those created between the participants: conversations on deck, personal stories shared with honesty and the reassuring feeling of being understood without having to explain everything. At MG Yachts, we believe that the sea has the power to bring people together, create confidence and open new horizons. We are honoured to have contributed to an initiative that promoted knowledge, inclusion, empowerment and the message that a diagnosis should never define the possibilities of someone’s life.
